Chinese tech giant Xiaomi unveiled its new range of Xiaomi 17 smartphones in Beijing on Thursday, seeking to strengthen its position in the high-end segment and compete directly with Apple’s recently launched iPhone 17.

The series, which includes three models—the Xiaomi 17, Xiaomi 17 Pro, and Xiaomi 17 Pro Max—hits the market with a starting price of 4,499 yuan (539 euros or 631 dollars) for the base model.
Among the new features, company founder Lei Jun highlighted at the presentation event the capabilities of the 6.3-inch OLED display with 120Hz refresh rate and a triple camera module with Leica optics, including a 2.6x telephoto lens.
The battery, according to the company, reaches 7,000 mAh, with 100W fast wired charging and 50W wireless charging.
All three devices feature the fifth-generation Snapdragon 8 processor, developed by Qualcomm.
The executive indicated that the phones will officially go on sale in China this Saturday, although reservations can be made starting today.
Lei stated mid-month that the Xiaomi 17 represents “the most powerful standard in the company’s history” and argued that the jump in nomenclature, from 15 to 17, is due to the desire to compete directly with Apple.
The executive recalled that the high-end strategy launched five years ago has entailed a cumulative investment of more than 100 billion yuan (about $14.04 billion or €11.97 billion) in research and development, a figure that Xiaomi plans to double in the next five years.
The launch comes after Apple unveiled the iPhone 17 this month, whose Pro models maintained last year’s prices despite the new US tariffs and incorporated a redesign and camera improvements.
In the second quarter of 2025, Xiaomi increased its net profit by 75% year-over-year to 10.8 billion yuan (approximately 1.288 billion euros or 1.514 billion dollars), driven by the growth of its electric vehicle business and the strong performance of its phones.
According to the consulting firm IDC, the company ranked second in smartphone sales in Europe and led the Southeast Asian market, at a time when Huawei leads the ranking in China.
