Washington, Mar 16 (EFE).-

The United States Central Command said Sunday that it is continuing strikes against the Houthis in Yemen for the second consecutive day. “(Command) forces continue operations against Iran-backed Houthi terrorists…” the entity reported on X.US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said his country would continue attacking the Houthis until maritime attacks cease.

“I want to be very clear: this campaign is focused on freedom of navigation and restoring deterrence. As soon as the Houthis say they will stop firing at ships and drones, this campaign will end, but until then, it will be relentless,” Hegseth told Fox.

The US attacked the Houthis in Yemen, leaving more than 30 dead.

Hegseth said that with that attack, the US sent a clear message, also directed at Iran.

The US told Iran on Sunday that direct military action against its interests could occur if the country does not cease its support for the Houthis in Yemen.

“All options are always on the table with the president (Donald Trump). Iran needs to hear it loud and clear: this is completely unacceptable, and the level of support they’ve been providing to the Houthis will be halted, just as they have with Hezbollah, just as they have with militias in Iraq, Hamas, and others,” US National Security Advisor Mike Waltz said.

In turn, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent stated that Saturday’s attacks are just the beginning.

“This is not an isolated incident, and we are doing this because they are blocking the freedom of passage of international shipping,” he said on NBC News. EFE
