On Saturday, November 16, Trenton’s Recreation Department Soccer League wrapped up its 2024 season with a Championship. Six teams competed in the finals, held at Father Rocco field at the Capital City Sports Complex. After a thrilling series of matches, the Red Bulls, Strikers, and PSG emerged as the champions.

“An exciting day of youth soccer in our Capital City! Beautiful weather spirited and supportive crowds, and three really good matches!” said Mike Van Wagner, the league’s volunteer director. “A terrific finish to a great season!”

This marks the Recreations soccer league’s second year in action, following a nearly 12-year absence. The league experienced significant growth in its second year, with nearly 270 boys and girls, ages 6-15, participating.

The league comprised of 16 teams across three divisions and also offers an instructional “Little Kickers” program for six-year-olds. Director Van Wagner was assisted by volunteer co-directors Kurt Lituma and Leyne Perkins. All team coaches are volunteers.

“Our coaches deserve a special shout-out,” said Van Wagner. “They are good, caring people who look to keep this fun for the kids while teaching them about the game. The fact is that without their commitment, we simply could not do this.”

“I want to thank Director Van Wagner and his entire staff for volunteering to teach the City’s youth soccer,” said Recreation Director Paul Harris. “It is our goal to invest in the interests of all our children and provide them with the proper tools to succeed. We look forward to the league’s continued success in 2025.”
