The United States President Donald Trump celebrated his first 100 days back in power Tuesday amid a thriving crowd in Michigan, a state he has marked as favorite for rallies and his controversial trade war to host the country’s automotive industry.

“After decades of politicians destroying Detroit to empower Beijing, they finally have a champion for working people in the White House. And instead of putting China first, I’m putting Michigan first, and I’m putting America first,” Trump said at the start of the event.
The evening was held in Macomb County, where he said “You’re fired!” – a reference to the television show “The Apprentice,” with which the magnate built an image as a successful businessman.
With about 100 autoworkers seated behind him in Macomb, the president felt supported by some 2,000 of his supporters at a time when polls are beginning to show growing discontent with his policies, especially regarding the economy.
“We’ve only just begun. You ain’t seen nothing yet. We’re going to end illegal immigration. We’re going to bring back our jobs and protect our great autoworkers and all of our workers,” he added in a speech filled with superlatives.

Trump, who in 100 days had not left Washington except to play golf on weekends or visit areas hit by Hurricane Helene in North Carolina, chose a small venue for the rally in a working-class county. There, he has won over 10 percentage points for the Democrats in the three presidential elections he has run, with his promises to revive the areas of the US most affected by deindustrialization.
That’s what he did in Macomb, where he said that his tariff policy, the same one that has turned the stock market and the diplomatic landscape upside down, is aimed at improving the living conditions of manufacturing workers. Shortly before the event, he also announced an agreement with the auto giants to ease the burden of the tariffs for the next two years.
In passing, he reiterated the message that Michigan is a sort of stronghold for him – Trump has been the only Republican able to win in this state since 1988 – and a favorite setting he has always chosen to close out his presidential campaigns and now also to celebrate his return to the White House.

In his speech, the president also said countries affected by tariffs, such as China – which has denied being in contact with the US – are willing to seek bilateral trade agreements and that, thanks to this, he has managed to earn his country “respect around the world.”
To the delight of those in attendance, Trump lashed out at the courts, which, especially on immigration issues, have attempted to block several of the most controversial measures in these past 100 days, such as the invocation of the Alien Enemies Act, which had not been applied since World War II, to send Venezuelan citizens without due process to a maximum-security prison in El Salvador.
“These people are only seeking to destroy our country. Nothing will stop my mission to keep America safe again,” Trump said, calling the judges who have blocked his initiatives “communist and radical leftist judges.”
During the event, the Republican also said he and his party would focus their political capital this year on what he called “the great and beautiful law” to reduce the tax burden on Americans.
“We will pass the largest tax cuts in the history of the US, which will include the elimination of taxes on tips, Social Security, and overtime. This is a great and beautiful piece of legislation, and it will be the largest piece of legislation ever passed in the history of our country,” he said.

In his more than 90-minute speech, he also had time to once again criticize Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell for not lowering interest rates, mock Democrats and a Michigan congressman’s attempts to remove him, and point out that his administration only officially recognizes the existence of the male and female genders.
