Paraguay national team advanced to the round of 16 at the 2026 World Cup after defeating Germany 3-4 in a penalty shootout, following a 1-1 draw in regulation time and 30 minutes of extra time.

Kai Havertz equalized in the 52nd minute for Germany, and the European team appeared to score the game-winning goal in the first half of extra time, but after a VAR review, the goal was overturned for a foul on Paraguayan goalkeeper Orlando Gill.
