Sports Desk, Aug. 1 (EFE).-

Simone Biles reaffirmed her legend as the most decorated gymnast in history on Thursday, winning her sixth Olympic gold medal and second of the Paris Games with a score of 59.131.

Thursdays’ was the 39th triumph of her career between the Olympics and World Championships. She has won the all-around at every event she has competed in since 2013.

Brazil’s Rebeca Andrade won the silver medal, finishing nearly two points behind; Suni Lee of the United States took the bronze.

“I know I did it, but I don’t think it’s hit me yet. It will probably hit me when I get back to the (Olympic Village). I’m just ecstatic about my performance tonight,” Biles said.

The US GOAT started on vault, surging down the platform and launching into a soaring Yurchenko double pike, the hardest currently performed by a female gymnast in competition. She earned a score of 15.766.

Great Britain’s Andy Murray said his final goodbye on Court Suzanne-Lenglen in a doubles match with Dan Evans against the Americans Taylor Fritz and Tommy Paul.

The four are mostly known as singles players; however, after being eliminated from the individual competition, the US players went all out in the doubles to give Murray a run for his money.

The US pair spent most of their time on the baseline, pressuring the British netminder and overwhelming their opponents.

Murray and Evans were trailing 2-6, 1-4 in the second set but managed to level at 5-4 before the US pair took the final game to close the match.

Murray and Evans shared a long hug before Murray was warmly greeted by Fritz and Paul at the net.

Before leaving, Murray broke down in tears as he was greeted by all corners of the stadium with a long, heartfelt standing ovation.

The Uk player ends his career with a long list of accomplishments, including 46 titles, three Grand Slam titles, two Olympic gold medals and 41 weeks at the top of the ATP ranking.

On Thursday, Australia’s swimming top rivals became teammates in the women’s 4×200 freestyle relay.

Ariarne Titmus and Mollie O’Callaghan, along with Brianna Throssell and Lani Pallister (who is still recovering from Covid), led Australia to the gold medal and a new Olympic record.

Amid the triumphs, Day 6 of the Olympics was also marked by controversy following the withdrawal of Italian boxer Angela Carini, who abandoned her fight against Algerian Imane Khelif after 46 seconds.

Khelif, was disqualified from the 2023 Women’s World Championships for failing a sex eligibility test, but she was allowed to fight at the Olympics.

Khelif’s first blow loosened Carini’s chinstrap and the second caused her to bleed.

The Italian then returned to her corner and raised her hand. She sobbed and refused to shake hands with Khelif after the Algerian was declared the victor.

Thursday’s fight sparked controversy over the eligibility into women’s sports, including opinions from Italian Prime Minister Georgia Meloni, Richard Dawkins, JK Rowling, Martina Navratilova, among others.

On the sixth day of the Olympic Games, China leads the medal count with 11 gold, 7 silver, and 6 bronze medals, followed by the USA with 9, 15 and 13 medals respectively.

The French are in third place with 8 gold, 11 silver and 8 bronze. EFE
