Eagles end the reign of Mahomes’ Kansas City Chiefs!

New Orleans, United States, Feb 9 (EFE).-

The Philadelphia Eagles ended the reign Sunday of Patrick Mahomes’ Kansas City Chiefs in the National Football League and became champions of their second Super Bowl after beating Andy Reid’s men 40-22 at the New Orleans Caesars Superdome.

The Eagles took revenge for the defeat that the Chiefs inflicted on them two years ago in Glendale, Arizona and prevented Kansas City from becoming the first franchise to win three consecutive Super Bowls.

Offensively, Jalen Hurts had a dream night that earned him the title of MVP. He punished the Chiefs’ approach, which was very focused on containing running back Saquon Barkley, but ended up being overwhelmed by the Eagles’ quarterback.

Hurts led the Eagles in the win by completing 17 of his 22 passes for 221 yards and two touchdown passes. The Philadelphia quarterback also had 72 yards rushing, with 11 runs, and scored a touchdown.

The Eagles’ hunger was evident, still affected by the defeat in the 2023 Super Bowl, but were never abandoned by their fans, who were seen throughout the weekend on the streets of New Orleans and who did not stop cheering on their idols at the Caesars Superdome.

Never in Super Bowl history had a team been held scoreless. And the Chiefs at least avoided that added disappointment. It was rookie Xavier Worthy who scored the Chiefs’ touchdown with a 24-yard reception with 34 seconds left in the third quarter and the game already decided.

Two field goals by Jake Elliott in less than two minutes, from 48 and 50 yards, respectively, sealed the Eagles’ victory.

Only the Chiefs’ second touchdown of the night, scored by DeAndre Hopkins after a seven-yard pass from Mahomes, was worth anything in the statistics. The Eagles’ party had already begun.

And with 2.52 minutes left and 40-14 on the scoreboard, the Eagles’ bench, with AJ Brown and DeVonta Smith in front, took it upon themselves to douse Nick Sirianni with a bucket of Gatorade.

The “Chiefs Kingdom” was over. And the “Fly Eagles, fly” was launched as a sweet chant of Philadelphia’s victory. EFE
