Angela Cruz-Middlesex College’s 2025 Alumna of the Year!

Angela Cruz ’86 has been named the 2025 Middlesex College Alumna of the Year. Cruz, the Global Campaign Enablement Lead for Sales Excellence at Accenture, will speak at the college’s 58th Commencement on May 13.
“I’m very fond of the College. I have other family members that have also gone to Middlesex for their education, and, for me, it’s such an honor and a privilege,” said Cruz.
Cruz moved to Perth Amboy, New Jersey, from the Dominican Republic as a high school junior and now resides in Miami, Florida. Despite knowing little of the culture and language, she graduated in the top 15 of nearly 700 students at Perth Amboy High School.
At Middlesex College, Cruz studied electrical engineering, joined the Phi Theta Kappa honor society, and served as president of the Hispanic American Club. During her time at the College, she earned an internship with AT&T, which led to a 13-year career in engineering.
She later transitioned into marketing and sales, securing leadership roles at companies like Lucent Technologies, Avaya, and Cisco. Cruz is the recipient of several prestigious honors, including the 2019 Mujer Inspiración (“Women Who Inspire”) Perla de Esperanza Foundation award and being named on the list of 2021 Top 50 IT Executives in Latin America and Iberia from the Hispanic IT Executive Council. She also serves as the board chair for a Miami nonprofit community organization.
A long-time champion of community college, Cruz credits a portion of her academic and professional success to the guidance and mentorship she received at Middlesex College.
“Only in a community college do you get the guidance and patience,” said Cruz. “In my case, they had the patience and the commitment to help me work through this period of not being clear on what direction I wanted to take. And they guided me in the right direction every time.”
Alumni of the Year are chosen to speak at Middlesex College’s Commencement ceremony each year. While this award recognizes the accomplishments of an individual alum, it is also a tangible demonstration of the role of Middlesex College in the lives of its students and graduates, and the College’s rippling impact into the community. The nominees, submitted via online form, are reviewed by the College, the Middlesex College Foundation, and the Middlesex College Alumni Association’s Executive Committee.
