In the anticipated debut of Julián Alvarez, it was once again Antoine Griezmann who proved to be the indispensable goalscorer for Atlético de Madrid, scoring the opening goal with a direct free kick in the 40th minute in their first home game of the LaLiga season on Sunday.

This was followed by a second goal from Marcos Llorente and a third by Koke Resurrección in the final moments, securing a 3-0 victory.

Girona fell short in attack, initially showing promise and dominating at times, but they crumbled once they received the second goal.

Griezmann struck the free kick with power, aiming for the post, perfectly placed at a height that would be challenging for any goalkeeper, and scored.

Then Griezmann passed the ball to Marcos Llorente, sparking a counterattack, and with no one in front of him, Llorente unleashed a powerful right-footed shot that Gazzaniga couldn’t block.

The 2-0 lead in the 49th minute was too much for Girona but calmed Atlético.

In a fantastic play initiated by Pablo Barrios and continued by Llorente, Koke scored and finished the game with a 3-0. EFE
