Trump’s defeat!

The Kennedy Center removed United States President Donald Trump’s name from the facade of its Washington building on Friday in compliance with a court order requiring it to do so.
On May 29, a judge ruled that the Kennedy Center’s board of directors, composed of Trump supporters, lacked the authority to change the institution’s name, since Congress had established its name and, therefore, was responsible for any modification.
The judge, who gave a two-week deadline for the removal of Trump’s name, noted that the law creating the center makes it “crystal clear” that it must bear the name of President John F. Kennedy, who was assassinated in 1963, and that it cannot bear any other name based on a “unilateral decision” by the institution’s leadership.
The Kennedy Center Board filed an “in extremis” appeal Thursday night to avoid removing Trump’s name from the facade of its iconic building in the capital.
The judge’s ruling also blocked the Kennedy Center’s planned two-year closure for renovation work, set to begin on July 4, and the board has also appealed this decision.
The Kennedy Center had already removed Trump’s name from its website on Monday as a first step toward complying with the decision it has now challenged.
Trump reacted harshly to the ruling two weeks ago, ordering the removal of his name, stating the judge was “an anti-Trump hater” and predicted that the nation’s premier performing arts would “soon be closed, probably never to open again.”
Since February 2025, following Trump’s return to the White House, dozens of artists have canceled their performances at this theater after the president replaced the center’s top executives with members of the Republican Party or individuals close to the MAGA (Make America Great Again) movement.
