Washington DC, Mar 21 (EFE).-

The Donald Trump administration plans to revoke the “humanitarian parole,” an immigration permit that has allowed some 530,000 Cubans, Haitians, Nicaraguans and Venezuelans to reside and work temporarily in the United States, according to a draft published Friday in the Federal Register.

The immigration benefit will expire on Apr. 24, so those who benefited from it must leave the country before that date or risk staying in the country irregularly.

The draft, prepared by the Department of Homeland Security, argues that these immigration programs no longer “serve a significant public benefit” for the United States and are “inconsistent with the Administration’s foreign policy goals.”

The draft was published Friday in the Federal Register, the official US government journal, which discloses regulations, regulations and other releases from federal agencies. It will be officially published on Monday.

In practice, Trump’s decision ends the “humanitarian parole”, created under the government of Joe Biden (2021-2025), which allowed nationals of certain countries to reside and work temporarily in the US. To access the program, they had to have sponsorship from someone who resided legally in the country.

According to the latest data from the Department of Homeland Security, some 110,000 people from Cuba, 210,000 from Haiti, 93,000 from Nicaragua and 117,000 from Venezuela were in the US under this program. EFE
