Real Madrid with Xabi Alonso at the helm!

Spanish soccer club Real Madrid on Sunday announced the arrival of Xabi Alonso as the new manager, replacing the Italian Carlo Ancelotti, marking his return to the club where he spent five successful years as a player.
“Real Madrid C.F. announces that Xabi Alonso will be the head coach of Real Madrid for the next three seasons, from June 1, 2025, to June 30, 2028,” the Madrid club said in a statement.
“Xabi Alonso is one of the greatest legends of Real Madrid and world football. He wore our shirt in 236 official matches between 2009 and 2014. During that time, he won six titles: the historic 10th European Cup in Lisbon, 1 UEFA Super Cup, 1 La Liga title, 2 Copa del Rey titles, and 1 Spanish Super Cup,” the statement underlined.
“Xabi Alonso is also a legend of the Spanish national team, with which he won 1 World Cup (2010) and 2 European Championships (2008 and 2012), earning 113 international caps,” it added.
Xabi Alonso returns to Real Madrid, where he won several trophies as a player and where he began his career as a coach with the youth team, before going on to manage Real Sociedad B in 2019.
In 2022, Alonso was named head coach of the German club Bayer Leverkusen, which completed an unprecedented unbeaten Bundesliga title in 2024.
The German team made history by cutting Bayern Munich’s hegemony in the Bundesliga under the Spaniard. During his two years and seven months at Bayer, Alonso also won the German Cup and the German Super Cup.
“He now returns to Real Madrid as one of the best coaches in the world, after making history at Bayer Leverkusen, where he won the Bundesliga, the German Cup, and the German Super Cup over three seasons,” Real Madrid said. EFE
