Monterrey’s Rayados out of Club World Cup!
Atlanta, United States, Jul 1 (EFE).-
Monterrey’s Rayados, the last North American team in the FIFA Club World Cup, fell Tuesday by 2-1 against a Borussia Dortmund side that was more effective but subdued throughout the second half.

The Germans, who won thanks to a brace from Serhou Guirassy and his excellent connection with Karim Adeyemi, will be Real Madrid’s quarterfinal opponent, who beat Juventus 1-0 earlier on Tuesday.

At Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Monterrey faced Dortmund in a match of equal measure. They played an offensive game, without holding back. It was a bold idea on the part of Domenec Torrent, perhaps even reckless against a European team with nine wins in its last 10 matches.

But Monterrey wasn’t overwhelmed, nor were they tactically outclassed. What tipped the scales in the end was Dortmund’s offensive talent, which was relentless in front of goal.
Having gone 2-0 down thanks to goals from Serhou Guirassy, the Germans thought to have a comfortable lead, which Monterrey’s German Berterame cut by one goal early in the second half.

However – and despite the Mexicans’ pressure in the last 45 minutes – Dortmund were able to hold out and secure the win, who now face the competition’s most successful team in the next round. EFE at/lds
