Inter-Milan ahead in Group E of World Club Cup!
Sports Desk, Jun 25 (EFE).-
Inter Milan defeated River Plate 2-0 on Wednesday, winning Group E of the FIFA Club World Cup and eliminating the Argentines in a match in which Marcelo Gallardo’s team finished with two men down due to red cards.

Francesco Pio Esposito in the 72nd minute and Alessandro Bastoni in the 93rd minute gave the victory to the team coached by Romanian Cristian Chivu, in a match in which River Plate goalkeeper Franco Armani had been tasked with thwarting the European runners-up’s scoring chances.
River Plate lacked order, were outplayed for most of the match, and forced to resort to physical play, which left them with two men less due to the expulsions of Lucas Martinez Quarta in the 66th minute, when the game was still 0-0, and Gonzalo Montiel, for a second yellow card, in the 95th.

In the other match, Monterrey, the other team in the group, thrashed Urawa Red Diamonds 4-0.
Inter Milan, Group E leaders with seven points, will face Brazilian side Fluminense in the round of 16, while Monterrey will face German side Borussia Dortmund.
Mamelodi Sundowns and Fluminense played out a dismal 0-0 draw in a match that was supposed to determine who would advance to the round of 16. Despite the South Africans’ greater dominance, neither side saw a few chances.

This draw leaves Fluminense second in Group F with five points, two less than Dortmund, who advance to the Round of 16 as group leaders. Mamelodi Sundowns finished with four points, but not enough to advance. EFE
