Benfica, Bayern, Boca Juniors out of Club World Cup
Sports Desk, Jun 24 (EFE).-
For the first time in its history, Benfica defeated Bayern Munich 1-0, defeating them with a 13th-minute goal from Schjelderup, with saves from Trubin, and a resilient display in the second half to take first place in the group.

The victory relegated the powerful German team to second place and gave Boca Juniors no chance of qualification.
The Portuguese side could have only gone out if they were defeated and Boca Juniors thrashed Auckland City, who instead drew 1-1.

The Argentines bowed out after the draw against the semi-professional New Zealanders, failing to secure the rout they needed to give themselves a chance of advancing.
This was another match in which the protagonists were in the stands: the Xeneize fans, who never stopped singing despite the temperature of over 35C.

Auckland City were already eliminated from the tournament after losing 0-10 to Bayern Munich and 0-6 to Benfica. And yet, a thrashing on Boca’s part wouldn’t have been enough after the German side’s defeat to the Portuguese side.
Elsewhere, two goals from Argentine Enzo Fernandez’s creativity at the end of the first half and another set-up by Brazilian Andrey Santos in the 97th minute secured Chelsea a place in the round of 16 with a 3-0 win over Esperance Tunis.
The Blues will face Benfica in the last 16 of the tournament Saturday at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte. EFE sd/lds
