Germany opened their Euro campaign with a solid 2-0 win over debutants Poland, thanks to a brilliant performance by Jule Brand.

The Lyon winger scored the opener in the 52nd minute with a powerful left-footed shot from outside the box and later assisted Lea Schüller’s header in the 66th minute.

Poland held strong in the first half, with star striker Ewa Pajor pushing back the German defense and goalkeeper Kinga Szemik keeping her team in the game.

Germany lost their captain Giulia Gwinn to injury in the 40th minute, but substitute Carlotta Wamser stepped in confidently.

“We needed patience. Poland was tough, but we stayed focused,” Brand said after the match.

Filippa Angeldahl was the hero for Sweden, scoring the only goal in a 1-0 victory over Denmark in Geneva. The Real Madrid midfielder found the net in the 55th minute after a clever one-two with Kosovare Asllani.

Denmark struggled to break Sweden’s high press and couldn’t recover after the goal.

Goalkeeper Lene Ostergaard kept the score close with key saves in the first half, including a free kick from Angeldahl.

“Starting with a win is important, especially against a strong rival like Denmark,” said Angeldahl.

Before kickoff, both teams and over 17,000 fans paid tribute to Portuguese footballer Diogo Jota and his brother, who passed away the day before.
