“Podr\u00edamos decir que, por ahora \u2014quiz\u00e1s para este a\u00f1o y tal vez para 2028\u2014, contamos con el voto latino; pero si no hacemos aquello que mejor sabemos hacer como dem\u00f3cratas, los perderemos de nuevo”, afirm\u00f3 el dem\u00f3crata en un acto organizado por el Center for American Progress Action Fund en Washington.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gallego, nacido en Chicago de madre colombiana y padre mexicano, asegur\u00f3 que “al hablar del futuro de los latinos”, el Partido Dem\u00f3crata, que acaba de hacerse con el control de las dos C\u00e1maras del Congreso tras lograr una sonada victoria en las elecciones de medio mandato del martes, se encuentra ante una “gran oportunidad”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

El senador dem\u00f3crata relat\u00f3 su propia historia de esfuerzo y superaci\u00f3n y record\u00f3 cuando sus primos y \u00e9l se amontonaban “en una camioneta enorme” y sal\u00edan “hacia el trabajo a las 5:00 de la ma\u00f1ana” y explic\u00f3 que entonces cre\u00edan “en la idea de que, si te esfuerzas y sigues las reglas, vas a salir adelante”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lament\u00f3 que “muchos latinos empezaron a notar, a partir de 2022 o 2023” que eso ya no suced\u00eda y que “la frustraci\u00f3n no hizo m\u00e1s que crecer y crecer”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Ellos quieren tener la posibilidad de salir adelante. Quieren creer, con la certeza de que es as\u00ed, que si hacen las cosas bien, tanto ellos como sus hijos podr\u00e1n prosperar. No quieren ser objeto de discriminaci\u00f3n racial”, reconoci\u00f3 tras recordar c\u00f3mo los votantes latinos dieron su apoyo al presidente Donald Trump en 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Por eso, y dado que el voto latino ha sido decisivo para el vuelco electoral de este mes de noviembre, Gallego fue claro: “Mi exhortaci\u00f3n \u2014mi exhortaci\u00f3n m\u00e1s importante\u2014, dirigida a los votantes, a nuestros candidatos, a los pol\u00edticos, a nuestras organizaciones, a todos: sea lo que sea que hagamos en los pr\u00f3ximos dos o cuatro a\u00f1os, debemos asegurarnos de dar resultados a esta comunidad”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
