El organismo meteorol\u00f3gico advirti\u00f3 de que Melissa tocar\u00e1 tierra en las pr\u00f3ximas horas, manteniendo su intensidad extrema antes de cruzar el sureste de Cuba el mi\u00e9rcoles y llegar a las Bahamas el jueves.<\/p>\n\n\n

Las estaciones meteorol\u00f3gicas de Kingston y Montego Bay ya registran vientos sostenidos superiores a 60 kil\u00f3metros por hora (37 millas por hora) y r\u00e1fagas de hasta 93 kil\u00f3metros por hora (58 millas por hora), mientras un avi\u00f3n “Cazahuracanes” de la Fuerza A\u00e9rea de Estados Unidos se dirige al \u00e1rea para evaluar los da\u00f1os y confirmar la intensidad del fen\u00f3meno.<\/p>\n\n\n

A las 8:00 hora local de Miami (12:00 GMT), sede del NHC, el centro del cicl\u00f3n se encontraba a 90 kil\u00f3metros (55 millas) al sur-sureste de Negril, en el extremo occidental de la isla, desplaz\u00e1ndose hacia el nornoreste a 11 kil\u00f3metros por hora (7 millas por hora).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

El NHC mantiene alertas de hurac\u00e1n para toda Jamaica, las provincias orientales de Cuba -Granma, Santiago de Cuba, Guant\u00e1namo y Holgu\u00edn-, as\u00ed como para las Bahamas centrales y del sureste. Hait\u00ed, Las Tunas (Cuba) y las islas Turcos y Caicos permanecen bajo aviso de tormenta tropical.<\/p>\n\n\n

Las autoridades jamaicanas instaron a la poblaci\u00f3n a permanecer en refugios seguros, ante la inminencia de vientos devastadores que podr\u00edan causar “fallos estructurales totales”, especialmente en zonas monta\u00f1osas donde las r\u00e1fagas pueden ser hasta un 30 % m\u00e1s fuertes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

En el este de Cuba se esperan acumulaciones de hasta 6,3 metros (25 pulgadas), con riesgo de deslizamientos e inundaciones “potencialmente catastr\u00f3ficas”, mientras que en el sureste de Bahamas y en Turcos y Caicos se prev\u00e9n entre 1,2 y 2,5 metros (5 a 10 pulgadas) de lluvia entre hoy y ma\u00f1ana.<\/p>\n\n\n
