EE.UU. anunci\u00f3 este jueves el comienzo de las operaciones de un muelle flotante para crear un corredor humanitario mar\u00edtimo hacia Gaza, que seg\u00fan el Pent\u00e1gono permitir\u00e1 entregar unas 500 toneladas de ayuda en los pr\u00f3ximos dos d\u00edas y asistir a m\u00e1s de dos millones de personas en riesgo de hambruna.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Seg\u00fan inform\u00f3 el vicealmirante Brad Cooper, el muelle flotante ya permite a embarcaciones peque\u00f1as descargar, de manera r\u00e1pida, ayuda humanitaria en la Franja de Gaza que ser\u00e1 entregada a organizaciones de Naciones Unidas, y otros grupos humanitarios, para su distribuci\u00f3n entre la poblaci\u00f3n gazat\u00ed.<\/p>\n\n\n

La infraestructura incluye una plataforma flotante a varios kil\u00f3metros de la costa para que grandes barcos procedentes de Chipre traspasen los pal\u00e9s a otras embarcaciones m\u00e1s peque\u00f1as.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Esta infraestructura permitir\u00e1 acelerar la entrega de ayuda, sobre todo ante el cierre del cruce meridional de Rafah, un paso terrestre vital para la entrada de alimentos, que est\u00e1 bloqueado por la ofensiva israel\u00ed en esa localidad fronteriza con Egipto.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Creo que vamos a movilizar unas 500 toneladas en un par de d\u00edas. Estimamos que entre 500 y 600 toneladas”, explic\u00f3 Cooper en una rueda de prensa en la que tambi\u00e9n a\u00f1adi\u00f3 que tienen unas miles de toneladas m\u00e1s esperando para proceder por esta infraestructura hacia la poblaci\u00f3n gazat\u00ed, en serio peligro de hambruna.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sonali Korde, responsable de asistencia humanitaria de la Agencia de EE.UU. para el Desarrollo (Usaid), asegur\u00f3 que esta infraestructura es “cr\u00edtica para poder entregar m\u00e1s ayuda a 2,2 millones de personas en la Franja de Gaza, ya que toda la poblaci\u00f3n se enfrenta a una inseguridad alimentaria aguda”.<\/p>\n\n\n

Hasta la fecha, se han suministrado barras de alimentos nutritivos para 11.000 personas y alimentos terap\u00e9uticos para 7.200 ni\u00f1os gravemente desnutridos. Adem\u00e1s, se han enviado asistencia y kits higi\u00e9nicos para 30.000 personas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

El vicealmirante enfatiz\u00f3 que esta misi\u00f3n es estrictamente humanitaria y se lleva a cabo bajo principios de neutralidad e imparcialidad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“El \u00fanico prop\u00f3sito del muelle es entregar asistencia humanitaria a la poblaci\u00f3n de la Franja de Gaza,” subray\u00f3 Cooper quien a\u00f1adi\u00f3 que “la ruta mar\u00edtima es un esfuerzo adicional que no pretende reemplazar las rutas terrestres hacia Gaza.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
