Pop icon Taylor Swift cemented her legacy at the 2024 Billboard Music Awards, winning 10 trophies and setting a new record as the most-awarded artist in the event’s history, with 49 golden statuettes that underscore her unrivaled reign over the music charts.

Swift surpassed rapper Drake, who previously shared the record with 39 wins. Drake added three awards this year, bringing his total to 42.

The BBMAs, broadcast on the Fox network, are presented annually by Billboard magazine, which tracks and celebrates achievements in the music industry. The awards recognize top-charting artists across genres such as pop, country, and Latin music.

Swift’s unmatched streak

For the second consecutive year, Swift took away 10 golden microphones mounted on square bases. This feat ties her career-best performances from 2013 and 2015 when she won eight awards in each edition.

Swift set a record by clinching the Best Artist award for the fourth time, having previously won in 2013, 2015, and 2023. This achievement breaks her tie with Drake, who has won three times, and makes her the first artist to claim the honor four times.

She also made history as the first artist to win consecutive Best Artist awards since Destiny’s Child, led by Beyoncé, achieved the feat in 2000 and 2001.

Swift claimed the Best Female Artist award for a record-breaking sixth time, after wins in 2013, 2015, 2018, 2021, and 2023. Her dominance in this category continues, with victories in three of the past four years, interrupted only in 2022 when Olivia Rodrigo took the honor.

Triumph across categories

Swift’s accolades extended beyond her established dominance. She won the Top Billboard 200 Album award for “The Tortured Poets Department”—her third win in the category—and the Top Hot 100 Artist award for the second time since her 2015 victory.

Other wins included Best Songwriter of the Hot 100, Best Radio Songs Artist, Best Global Artist of the Billboard 200, and Best Global Artist (excluding the US).

In a new milestone, Swift claimed the Best Streaming Song Artist award for the first time, underscoring her ability to conquer new ground even after years of unparalleled success.

The Billboard Music Awards are produced by Dick Clark Productions, a subsidiary of Penske Media Corporation, which also owns Billboard magazine. EFE
