Mariah Carey is “heartbroken”

American singer Mariah Carey is “heartbroken” following the deaths of her mother and sister on the same day.

She shared the news in a statement but did not provide details about the circumstances of their deaths and requested privacy during this difficult time.

“My heart is broken that I have lost my mother this past weekend,” Carey said on Monday. “Sadly, in a tragic turn of events, my sister lost her life on the same day.”

The five-time Grammy Award winner and recipient of 15 Billboard Awards, among other honors, said she felt blessed to have spent time with her mother just a week before her passing.

“I feel blessed that I was able to spend the last week with my mom before she passed. I appreciate everyone’s love and support and respect for my privacy during this impossible time.”

In her 2020 memoir, “The Meaning of Mariah Carey,” she described her relationship with her mother as “complicated” and “full of contradictions and competing realities,” but she dedicated the book to her with a promise to always love her as best as” she could.

“Our relationship is a prickly rope of pride, pain, shame, gratitude, jealousy, admiration and disappointment,” Carey wroter of her mother in the book. “A complicated love tethers my heart to my mother’s.”

Media reports indicate that the publication of the memoir strained her relationship with Alison, who even filed a lawsuit against Mariah for allegedly causing harm by revealing certain family stories.

In addition to Alison, Mariah Carey has a brother, Morgan. Both are the children of Patricia Hickey, an Irish-American opera singer and vocal coach, and Alfred Roy Carey, an African-American aeronautical engineer of Venezuelan descent. EFE
