Donald Trump “Person of the Year 2024”

ENew York, Dec 12 (EFE).- Time magazine on Thursday named Donald Trump as its 2024 Person of the Year, recognizing the 78-year-old US president-elect for his “historic comeback” and reshaping American politics and the presidency.
The Republican, winner of the Nov.5 presidential elections, was also Time’s Person of the Year in 2016, the year he first won the race to the White House, defeating his then rival Hillary Clinton.
”Trump’s political rebirth is unparalleled in American history. His first term ended in disgrace, with his attempts to overturn the 2020 election results culminating in the attack on the US Capitol,” the magazine noted.
Sam Jacobs, Time’s editor-in-chief, said on platform X that the decision was straightforward. “For 97 years, the editors of TIME have been picking the Person of the Year: the individual who, for better or for worse, did the most to shape the world and the headlines over the past 12 months. In many years, that choice is a difficult one. In 2024, it was not.”
Jacobs highlighted Trump’s significant influence since entering the political arena in 2015, describing his unexpected 2016 win and subsequent chaotic presidency.
Trump’s first term included unprecedented challenges such as the COVID-19 pandemic and widespread protests, culminating in his 2020 election loss and the January 6, 2021, Capitol attack.
“The smart money wagered that we had witnessed the end of Trump,” Jacobs noted. “If that moment marked Trump’s nadir, today we are witnessing his apotheosis.”
Trump’s victory in the Nov. 5 election against Vice President Kamala Harris secured his place in history as the first president to win non-consecutive terms since Grover Cleveland. His re-emergence, Jacobs asserted, is reshaping the American presidency.
Other finalists for Time’s 2024 Person of the Year included Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, tech entrepreneur Elon Musk, and Vice President Kamala Harris, who Trump defeated in November.
This year’s recognition underscores Trump’s enduring political influence and the profound impact of his leadership on the global stage. EFE
