Sports Desk, Aug 31 (EFE).-

Seven goals from Erling Haaland in three Premier League games have made Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City the sole leaders after shattering West Ham Coach Julen Lopetegui’s plan to contain the forward.

The Norwegian proved too good in all facets of the game and Lopetegui’s men couldn’t stop them from coming out 1-3 winners on the night.

Lopetegui faced a tough challenge of keeping Guardiola’s team’s pressure through speed and direct football, exploiting the speed of Kudus and the precision of Bowen. The first plan, until City took control of the ball, was to increase the intensity. That’s when Michail Antonio came close to scoring after a cross from Kudus and Ederson saved a shot from Bowen.

City were unscathed and when they began to dominate, they were quick to create danger. Haaland missed the only chance he had. He headed in a cross from Bernardo Silva and gave the first warning. In the 11th minute he did not miss the second chance, punishing an inaccuracy at the start of the play from Emerson and Paqueta. Bernardo Silva put a pass into space and the Norwegian capitalized.

West Ham’s reaction was more allied with luck than with merit. City had deserved the second chance with Grealish, starting due to Savinho’s injury and sending Doku to the right flank.

It was on a counterattack in which Bowen followed Lopetegui’s plan when his cross hit Ruben Dias and slipped into his goal for the equalizer after half an hour of play. A key moment in the game in which decisive players appeared such as De Bruyne, who took control of the match with a repertoire of quality moves and Haaland, who scored the second out of nowhere.

He received the ball with his right foot and in tenths of a second he unleashed a left-footed shot that was unstoppable.

It was just a matter of time before Haaland scored again. He did so as soon as he had space to run, gently chipping the ball into the net and even came close to scoring the fourth in the 95th minute. EFE
