Hamilton Resident Honored with Global Volunteer Award for Supporting Hispanic Communities

Trenton. New Jersey.- By Victor Deus

Hamilton resident David Riascos, an Assistant Vice President at Bank of America, was recently named a recipient of the 2024 Global Volunteer Award. This honor is a testament to his dedication to serving others, recognizing him as one of only two awardees in New Jersey among Bank of America’s global workforce.

David’s path has been shaped by his own life experiences. When his family emigrated from Colombia to the United States, he was just eight years old. Adapting to a new culture and navigating unfamiliar systems was not easy, but those challenges instilled in him a drive to help others facing similar hurdles. Over the past nine years at Bank of America, David has advanced from a Financial Center Assistant Manager to a Business Banking Commercial Associate, all while staying committed to giving back to his community.

A key focus of David’s volunteerism is financial education. He introduced the Better Money Habits program in New Jersey through Bank of America’s Hispanic-Latino Organization for Leadership and Advancement (HOLA). Through this initiative, he has mentored Hispanic students and families across Northern and Central New Jersey, helping them build stronger financial futures. Collaborating with organizations like the Children’s Home Society of NJ and Junior Achievement, he has spent more than 200 hours teaching practical skills and offering guidance.

David’s work directly addresses challenges faced by Hispanic communities, especially immigrants learning to navigate the U.S. financial system. The workshops he leads often provide information many participants wish they had access to earlier in life, making his efforts all the more impactful.

As part of the Global Volunteer Award, David received $1,000 to donate to a nonprofit of his choice. He selected Hispanics Inspiring Students’ Performance and Achievement (HISPA), an organization that supports Hispanic students in pursuing educational and career opportunities.

David’s recognition as a 2024 Global Volunteer Award recipient reflects not only his professional achievements but also his deep commitment to helping others. His work has made a lasting difference for many and serves as a reminder of the power of community-focused efforts.
