Monaco beats Barcelona!
Sports Desk, Sep 19 (EFE).-
Barcelona struggled after Eric García’s dismissal in the 11th minute and fell 2-1 to Monaco at the Stade Louis II on Thursday during their opening Champions League match.
Although Barcelona improved after the restart, striker George Ilenikhena took advantage of a defensive error on a long ball to score the winner in the 72nd minute.
In Bergamo, David Raya’s brilliant double save from Mateo Retegui’s penalty earned Arsenal a 0-0 draw on Thursday, the highlight of a game that lacked a clear dominant player and ended in a dull goalless draw.
Meanwhile, Atletico Madrid entered the new Champions League with an agonizing 2-1 comeback win over Leipzig, capped by José María Giménez’s header in the 89th minute and 23 seconds from Antoine Griezmann’s cross.
Leipzig’s next two home games in October against Juventus and Liverpool will not make the club’s task in the Champions League any easier. The next Champions League matches start on Oct. 1. EFE
